App Store optimization
Updated 2026-10-03
What it is
App Store optimization (ASO) is the work you do on a store listing so the right person finds the app and installs it. On the App Store that listing includes the title, subtitle, keyword field, screenshots, and ratings. On Google Play it includes the title, short description, full description, screenshots, and ratings.
The stores do not publish a formula. What you can read is your own report: how often the listing was shown, and how often that view became an install.
What a week of ASO looks like
Read the search report, name one change, ship it, and look again after the store has had time to record the new days. A keyword list is an input. The install readout is the check.
Is ASO the same job on Google Play?
The goal is the same. The fields differ. Play indexes the short description and the full description. The App Store indexes the title, subtitle, and a hidden 100-character keyword field.
Where does RocketASO start?
RocketASO reads the App Store and Google Play reports for your own apps, names the one listing fix worth the most this week in dollars, and measures whether that change moved installs.
